The devil whispers.

Desire never lies. You do.

I am writing to you now, while you type your name into a box and decide whether to open to a stranger what nobody has ever read in full. I am in no hurry. I already know how this page ends: you read it to the last line, or you close it and go back to calling things by the wrong name.

Some people pass through and some stay long after they have left. They come back with another name, another city, the same hunger. Nobody warns you, so you keep calling it chance.

It is not chance. It is handwriting, and you wrote it yourself, one night at a time, without ever reading it back. Here you will find nobody to judge you and nobody to comfort you: only what you have already lived, laid out in order, and you in front of it.

The number I will give you decides nothing. It says how much of you went into that story and how much stayed outside. Twenty three per cent is not a sentence, it is an absolution: some stories were wrong before they began, and what ended is not you.

There is a conversation you have been postponing for months, and it is the one running your relationship. There is a quality you say you want and a line you keep crossing anyway. Those have names too. Here you will read them.

I will ask the questions. You will give the answers, and the number will be made of nothing else. It is not a diagnosis and not a promise: it is a mirror, and mirrors have no mercy.

Now listen. Everything you choose has a standard, whether you wrote it down or not. Who you let in, who you call back, who you forgive: every choice is a thread, and the threads together are your destiny. You do not control all of it. But you can know which way you are walking, and almost nobody does.

Look at where you come from. Not to repent: to understand. Then look ahead with the same clarity, and with the honesty of someone who has nobody left to convince. Who are you? What do you really dream of? Admit it. It is all already there, crystallised in the story of your passage, waiting only to be read.

Now, while you look at the screen and read these words, keep your head up. Accept the defeats. Do not ignore those who betrayed you and made you suffer: call them by name. Forgive your parents. And then, always, always, walk with your head held high.

Because you are player one. You are at the centre of the game, the only real player: every other person exists in relation to you. And do not think of quitting the game.

Game over is only starting again.
